Sonyk — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Underspin City Gourmet, LLC ("Sonyk", "we") handles information in the Sonyk apps and website (the "Service"). We built Sonyk to keep your music yours.

What we collect

Account (optional): if you create an account, your email address and a display name, handled by our backend provider (Supabase). You can use the core music-making features without an account.
Community content: if you post to the community/feedback board, we store your post, votes, and comments.
Your music & recordings: your songs, samples, and microphone recordings are created and stored on your device. We do not upload them unless you explicitly share, post, or (in future) enable cloud sync.
Purchases: subscription status. On iOS, billing is handled by Apple; on the web, by our payment processor. We do not receive your full card details.
Basic diagnostics: limited technical/usage information to operate and improve the Service. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
App usage analytics: which features the apps' users reach (for example "first song saved") — see App usage analytics below.
Website analytics: anonymous page-view counts for sonyk.com and the web app — see Website analytics below for exactly what is recorded.

Website analytics

To count visits and see which pages and links bring people to Sonyk, pages on sonyk.com (including the web app at sonyk.com/app) load a small analytics script from app.jobkick.com. JobKick is run by the same owner as Sonyk; it is not an advertising network, and the data is not sold or shared with advertisers. The script is not used in the iPhone, iPad, Mac or Vision Pro apps. For each page you open it records:

the page's address without anything after a ? or # (for example /dj/), and the time;
the name of the website that linked you here (for example google.com) — just the site name, never the full address of the page you came from;
campaign tags, if the link you followed had them (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign);
a few named buttons when you click them (for example "Open the app");
a random visit ID your browser makes up and keeps in this tab's session storage, so several pages in one visit count as one visitor. It disappears when you close the tab.

It does not set cookies, save your IP address, record your browser or device details, fingerprint you, or link visits to your Sonyk account or email. Because the records can't be tied to you, we can't look up or delete "your" visits — there is nothing that identifies you in them. Blocking the script (for example with a content blocker) doesn't affect how Sonyk works.

App usage analytics

To learn where new users get stuck, the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro apps record a short list of named moments: for example the app being opened, the first time you press play, saving a song, adding a track, seeing the upgrade screen, and whether a purchase went through or was cancelled. Each event carries the app version, platform, device model and OS version, and a random ID created on install (it is not your Apple ID or advertising ID, and it resets if you reinstall). Events go to our backend (Supabase) and to PostHog, an analytics service that processes them for us. If you are signed in, the copy kept by our backend also carries your account ID; PostHog does not receive it.

The apps do not record your screen, your music, what you type, or your location, and this data is not used for advertising or tracking across other apps and websites. In the iPhone, iPad and Mac apps you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy → "Share anonymous usage data".

Microphone

Sonyk uses the microphone only when you choose to record. Recordings stay on your device unless you share or export them. We do not listen in the background.

How we use information

To provide and operate the Service, authenticate your account, sync your subscription entitlement, power the community board, respond to support, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

Third parties

We use Supabase (accounts/backend), PostHog (app usage analytics), Apple (iOS billing & app distribution), and a web payment processor (web billing). If you connect SoundCloud or Beatport, your use of those services is governed by their own privacy policies. These providers process data on our behalf or under their own terms.

Your choices & rights

You can use the app without an account. If you have an account, you can edit your display name and delete your account (which removes your profile and community posts) from in-app settings or by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data (e.g., under GDPR or CCPA); contact us to exercise them.

Children

Sonyk is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
